The Warning: A Journey Through Their Discography

Hello, Japanese Female Rock readers! If you love powerful riffs, raw energy, and pure rock talent, then get ready—we’re diving deep into the discography of The Warning! This Mexican trio of sisters has been taking the world by storm, delivering electrifying performances and lyrics that resonate across generations. Today, we’ll explore the albums that transformed Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal into modern rock icons.
The Beginning: Escape the Mind (2015)

It all started in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2013, when three young sisters picked up their instruments and decided to make history. Daniela on guitar and vocals, Paulina on drums, and Alejandra on bass formed The Warning. Just two years later, in 2015, they released their debut EP, Escape the Mind. This independent release, featuring six original tracks like Take Me Down and Free Falling, showcased a raw but incredibly promising sound. At the time, they were between 10 and 15 years old, yet their musical maturity was undeniable. The EP not only opened doors but also gained international attention, leading them to launch a GoFundMe campaign to study at the Berklee College of Music—a humble yet powerful beginning.
Finding Their Sound: XXI Century Blood (2017)

In 2017, The Warning made their first full-length debut with XXI Century Blood. Featuring 13 tracks, this album reflects the glories, struggles, and contradictions of the modern era. Songs like the title track XXI Century Blood and Survive demonstrate the band refining their style—a fusion of hard rock and metal influences packed with energy and meaningful lyrics. Independently recorded, this album solidified their name in the Mexican rock scene, even earning them opportunities to open for bands like Def Leppard.
A Dark Concept: Queen of the Murder Scene (2018)

Just one year later, in 2018, The Warning raised the stakes with a concept album, Queen of the Murder Scene. This record tells the tragic tale of a queen obsessed with power and love, leading to her downfall. Tracks like Choke and Dust to Dust showcase their musical evolution, with more complex arrangements, theatrical vocals from Daniela, and an impeccable chemistry between Alejandra’s pulsing bass and Paulina’s intense drumming. This album not only highlighted their ability to tell deep, emotional stories, but it also brought them to even bigger stages, opening for legendary bands like The Killers and Muse.
A New Chapter: Error (2022)

By 2022, The Warning entered a new era with Error, their third album, and their first under Lava Records. With 14 tracks, including the electrifying Money and their first Spanish-language track, the visceral Martirio, this album explored technology, identity, and the struggles of the digital age. Produced by David Bendeth, Error elevated their sound, blending heavy rock with a more mainstream appeal. This breakthrough album earned them a spot at the MTV Video Music Awards and secured them tours with rock legends like Guns N’ Roses. It’s the sound of a band that has found its voice—but still pushes boundaries.
Reaching Their Peak: Keep Me Fed (2024)

Finally, in 2024, The Warning returned with their fourth album, Keep Me Fed, released on June 28. With 12 tracks, including S!CK, Six Feet Deep, and Automatic Sun, this album showcases the trio at their absolute creative peak. It strikes the perfect balance of power, melody, and emotion, with lyrics that speak of struggle, resilience, and self-discovery. Their world tour following the release took them to new audiences worldwide, including historic performances in Europe and their highly anticipated debut in Brazil in 2025. But Keep Me Fed is more than just an album—it’s a statement: The Warning is here to stay.

"I am proud that in Japan we have so many female-fronted bands": Midori Tatematsu, Lovebites Interview – February 24, 2025 For the first time in their career, the Japanese band Lovebites is coming to Latin America, performing at the first edition of the Titans of Metal festival on March 1 at Parque Bicentenario in Mexico City. We had the chance to talk with guitarist Midori Tatematsu about her first impressions of coming to Mexico and the growing, highly admired Japanese metal scene. How do you feel about coming to Mexico for the first time and sharing the stage with major bands like W.A.S.P. and Six Feet Under at the first Titans of Metal Fest? This will be our first live performance in Latin America, so we are especially excited about it. As a band, it’s a great honor for us to share the stage with these metal legends, and personally, I really want to see them perform because I’ve never had the chance to attend one of their concerts. The worl...

THE WARNING – QUEEN OF THE MURDER SCENE: A DARK JOURNEY THROUGH CONCEPTUAL ROCK

The second studio album by the Mexican trio The Warning, Queen of the Murder Scene, marks a crucial moment in the band's career. Released on November 25, 2018, this isn't just another rock album – it's a dark and immersive conceptual work that tells a story of obsession, psychological descent, and murder through 13 powerful tracks. Following the raw energy of their debut album XXI Century Blood, the Villarreal sisters – Dany, Pau, and Ale – chose a more ambitious path. They decided to create an album with a cohesive narrative, told from two alternating perspectives: the protagonist’s "good" side and her dark, psychotic alter ego. This narrative duality creates tension and emotional depth throughout the listening experience. A CONCEPT BUILT IN CHAPTERS The album was recorded at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles and released independently through Nada Mas Records. It was cleverly structured into chapters, released separately in the weeks leading ...

[Translation] Interview with Misa on Rolling Stone Japan vol. 28 (2024-09-25)

Misa: Her artisanal attention to detail and love for the band Misa, the bassist of Band-Maid, is loved also for her performance of drinking alcohol on stage. Contrary to her taciturn appearance, she plays technical and passionate bass lines on her 5-string bass. With her heavy sound, she makes Band-Maid songs even more solid. She thoughtfully talked with us about the challenge she took on in their latest album and about what Band-Maid means to her. ― In which song on Epic Narratives did you personally challenge yourself most? Misa: It’s Track 13 TAMAYA!. When I received the first demo, I thought it would be fun to play with slap, so I wrote such a bass line on the spot, but that increased the difficulty level. It has a lot of precise switches, like I pick for a bar and then slap just for another bar, and I slap again just for a bar or two quarters. I made it so myself, though (laughs).   ― You Band-Maid have a tendency to pursue unusual difficulties,...
